Round 2 posted their February Product Spotlight video about a couple days ago. Check it out to see the new Legends of the Quarter Mile (Super Stock) ThunderJet Release 19. Auto World’s Legends of the Quarter Mile™ has expanded to include some of the most popular Super Stocks of the 60s and 70s drag racing era! These beasts thundered down dragstrips across the country entertaining sold-out crowds week after week. These cars may look stock on the surface, but they’re highly modified to extract every last second of time off the quarter mile! Check out the Spotlight video below and scroll down for images of the 3 slot cars as well as the sell sheet.
This 3 Car release includes the following slot cars:
I completed my Release 7 collection of Auto World’s NHRA Top Fuel Dragsters this past week. I purchased the final Al-Anabi Racing slot car directly from Larry Dixon Racing (via eBay) and Larry even signed it! If you need this Top Fuel Dragster slot car for your collection this is a great deal at just $15 + shipping.
They have 2 more available as of 1/9/17. Here is a direct link. They even included a personalized, signed handout/postcard as well.
I found an older Racing Rigs two-pack featuring a 4Gear NHRA Funny Car of Ron Capps and a matching Semi Hauler for the NAPA Auto Parts Funny Car Team on eBay last month. I finally have some time to take a few photos and share. I have yet to open it but will do so eventually and do some test runs down my 1000′ scale track.
This is from the Racing Rigs release #7, the other twin pack in this release is a Richard Petty stock car and semi hauler.
Round 2 has posted their December Product Spotlight which gives us the first look at the new Top Fuel Dragster slot cars in Release 18. This release will have 3 new slot cars, 2 of the cars are repeat sponsors and drivers. We have seen previous versions of Matco Tools – Antron Brown and US Army – Tony Schumacher cars before. The third dragster will be SealMaster – J.R. Todd.
As you can see in the photos below pulled from the video, the packaging for the top fuel dragsters has been updated. Plastic blister packs will replace the previous boxes. Hopefully they have an easy open ability that might allow them to be reused. If not I am going to miss the boxes for the purpose of storage, display, and re-packing for trade or sale on Ebay.
12/26/16 Update – I have posted official photos from the Auto World website for these three Top Fuel Dragster slot cars.
Matco Tools – Antron Brown
US Army – Tony Schumacher
SealMaster – J.R. Todd
As far as other new releases in the slot car area, the first new NASCAR Racing Rigs is being released. Featuring the 2016 Champion Jimmie Johnson. You will get a Jimmie’s 2016 Chevy SS Lowes/Kobalt sponsored car which is a Super III Chassis and an Xtraction Peterbilt racing rig hauler. Be sure to check out their product spotlight video below.
The Auto World ThunderJet Release 16 features 3 different Legends of the Quarter Mile Super Stock HO slot cars. The ThunderJet Ultra-G chassis is Auto World’s improved version of the classic pancake design, which was originally developed by Aurora in the early days of electric slot racing.
This release includes both the original slot car and an iWheels edition of each: 1969 AMC AMX-1, TASCA Ford 1964 Thunderbolt and COLOR ME GONE 1969 Dodge 330.
Legends of the Quarter Mile – Super Stock – Thunderjets Release 16
Auto World’s 4Gear Release 17 is another set of vintage funny car slot cars. This release features iWheels editions of each car similar to release 16 so there are 8 new cars but only 4 unique. I personally don’t care for the iWheels. I enjoy collecting all the NHRA drag racing slot cars because they resemble the real thing. Changing the paint scheme to all white with a white chassis and white wheels doesn’t make the car any more appealing to me. I’d rather see one more unique slot car versus 4 iWheels.
The vintage funny cars featured in this 4Gear Slot Car release are Brand X, Jungle Jim, Don Schumacher and Damn Yankee. The Jungle Jim car is red in this release and has some different sponsors in comparison to the blue Jungle Jim funny car from Release 12.
The Don Schumacher and Damn Yankee iWheels white body gimmick doesn’t execute very well when the original cars were mostly white to begin with. You’ll see below, the only thing different about the iWheels edition are the white chassis and tires. To me, it is a duplicate slot car with silly white tires.
Another Auto World exclusive slot car, or special edition as they label this one, is the Service Central sponsored NHRA Funny Car of Johnny Gray. The printed insert in the case shows Special Edition where the release number would usually be and there is nothing printed in the white funny car area which is usually where the release number is.
This car was supposedly made exclusively for Service Central,Tire Kingdom (NTB) and only sold through their retail locations and never released by Auto World. The name above the drivers door shows Johnny Gray 201c. The paint scheme appears similar to the Shane Gray Pro Stock slot car in Release 6.
Auto World’s 4Gear Release 16 brings us four more vintage funny car slot cars. These slot cars were scheduled for a March 2015 release based off the sell sheet I found. This is the first time that Auto World’s iWheels would be produced for the Legends of the Quarter Mile series. So there are really 8 new cars but only 4 unique.
The iWheels cars are duplicates of the regular model except the primary color or at least some color of the car has been replaced with white, they have white wheels and the chassis is white as well. I have photos for both the regular slot cars and the iWheels side by side below for comparison.
