Another Auto World exclusive slot car, or special edition as they label this one, is the Service Central sponsored NHRA Funny Car of Johnny Gray. The printed insert in the case shows Special Edition where the release number would usually be and there is nothing printed in the white funny car area which is usually where the release number is.
This car was supposedly made exclusively for Service Central,Tire Kingdom (NTB) and only sold through their retail locations and never released by Auto World. The name above the drivers door shows Johnny Gray 201c. The paint scheme appears similar to the Shane Gray Pro Stock slot car in Release 6.
Auto World’s 4Gear chassis has an extended wheel base which is perfect for the NHRA Funny Cars and Pro Stocks. There are 2 neodymium traction magnets on the bottom of these cars which offer amazing grip. Release 9 consists of eight cars” six NHRA Funny Cars and two NHRA Pro Stocks. Scheduled for a release date of October 2012, I have found a sell sheet for this release dated August 28th, 2012. Check out the detailed photographs of each slot car.
The second set of 4Gear NHRA Slot Cars came in Release 6. Another eight cars total, six NHRA Funny Cars and two NHRA Pro Stock. I have not been able to find any sell sheets for this release. Auto World 4Gear Release 6 came out around November of 2011. Here are the images I have for this Auto World slot car release.

The 4Gear Release 3 was the first release of licensed NHRA Funny Cars and Pro Stocks based on my research. I found a PDF “Sell Sheet” for this release listing all eight cars. There are six NHRA Funny Cars and 2 NHRA Pro Stocks in this release. The sell sheet is dated January 27th, 2011.
Surprisingly this sell sheet listed one of the Funny Cars as being the Canidae Funny Car with driver Paul Lee. The Canidae car was not one of the five cars featured on the sell sheet though. I have not been able to find any images of an Auto World Canidae slot car so I assume it was scrapped and the Auto Club Funny Car of Robert Hight was added to the set. Also, you will notice that the Tony Pedregon Funny Car shown on sell sheet ended up being a Pro Stock instead. One last observation I have made is on the two Castrol sponsored Funny Cars of John Force and Ashley Force Hood you do not see the Simpson Decal on the side right before the window starts, but on the actual cars there is a Simpson decal. You will see this for the John Force Racing Dragstrip set as well. Fine print does state “Design and vehicles subject to change.”
Check out the sell sheet below, as well as the group and individual images of the actual slot cars in the 4Gear Release 3.
